New year resolutions are what a lot of people think of when coming into a new year. Coming into 2021, we need to be focused on our self-development: keeping our mental and physical states well and healthy. My three top tips are: students and teachers stay healthy as they head back into the classroom? Making sure you get plenty of sleep. Sleep is so important to ensure you start the day at your best. A healthy diet is also very important to keep you going through the day, so you don’t burn yourself out. My top three tips for staying fit and healthy throughout 2021 are: 1. Make the time to exercise. We all get busy with life sometimes, but it’s important to take 30 minutes out of each day to do some form of exercise. Get into the habit of making it part of your daily routine. 2. Eat, drink, sleep, repeat. Make sure you’re nourishing your body with PATY STATE/TERRITORY WINNERS 31 a balanced diet (plenty of fruit and veggies), getting enough hours of sleep each night, and hydrating. 3. Listen to and understand your body. It’s a very powerful system. It’ll tell you when you’re stressed, tired or unwell. Understand when you’re stressed – take some time away and breathe, get an extra hour or two of sleep, or simply take a day to recover. February is the time people start heading back to school. How can students and teachers stay healthy as they head back into the classroom? Starting back at school has always been an exciting time for me, growing up: getting to see friends, perhaps learning with a new teacher, or just getting back into a routine. Staying healthy during the semester can be tough. However, taking your daily immune boosters, keeping up your hand hygiene and getting a balanced diet and plenty of sleep are a few ways to minimise getting sick. If you’re feeling unwell, take the time to recover, catch up on the work at home, and avoid spreading the bugs through the school. 1. 2. 3. • • • • You must fill up your own cup before helping others fill up their own cup. Aim for goals that are achievable, such as: Plan to walk twice a week with a friend or loved one before or after work. Only have dessert on a Friday night. Join a yoga class twice a week. Have fun and be social. It’s important not to make your goals unrealistic. You must crawl before you run. February is the time people start heading back to school. How can students and teachers stay healthy as they head back into the classroom? Routine and organisation is key. Getting children into a routine is very important: going to bed at the same time each night, having an alarm in the morning, and kids knowing that routine will minimise stress and chaos within your household. Spending time outside in the fresh air and sun where possible. This can vastly improve mood and wellbeing. Try some new hobbies that’ll keep the mind or body active, to get those endorphins going.
