The trick is turning these goals into long-term habits to reap the health benefits of making positive changes. This month we chat with the 2020 PATY State/Territory Winners to get their insights into staying fit and healthy throughout 2021. With the new school year upon us, we also chat with them about how students, teachers and the school community can stay healthy as they head back into the classroom.   Joshua Edye, ACT – Erindale Pharmacy The start of a new year brings health goals and resolutions. What are your top tips for staying fit and healthy throughout 2021? Motivation to change exercise and eating habits often becomes a priority after a health scare. Don’t wait for something bad to happen! The beginning of the year is a great time to start shifting those bad habits and develop some realistic health goals. When it comes to achieving your health goals, realistic objectives and consistency are crucial. February is the time people start heading back to school. How can students and teachers stay healthy as they head back into the classroom? It’s crucial for young, growing bodies that kids have a good night’s sleep, eat nutritious food, and engage in regular physical activity. Doing so encourages a strong immune system that can handle those notorious back-to-school bugs. As children head back to school and parents back to work, now is a good time to review asthma management plans, what inhalers to use and when, and what the optimal technique is for your inhaler(s). It’s estimated that up to 90 per cent of Australians use their inhalers incorrectly, so come chat with your pharmacist about your inhaler technique.
