PATY STATE/TERRITORY WINNERS 21 What products would you recommend found in retail pharmacy that help to boost energy levels? I like to recommend an immune and energy boosting powder that is regularly found in pharmacy. It provides a boost of vitamins, minerals, greens, proteins, superfoods, probiotics and antioxidants. I like to suggest different ways to use the powder, but my personal favourite is in a morning smoothie: it’s easy, yummy and great for anyone on the run. Jack Wales, ACT – Macquarie Discount Pharmacy What is your advice for maintaining health and fitness goals in winter? I’d recommend starting with a plan. While many gyms are still closed or adapting their equipment to social distancing guidelines, there are many fitness plans available online that can be followed in the comfort of the home. Even if the weather is chilly, you can beat the cold by exercising indoors, with ample warm-up stretches to avoid muscle damage. Staying motivated for this routine is simply a matter of scheduling specific days, and even picking music to do exercise to. The most important thing is to be comfortable and know your limitations when starting any new exercises, while also accounting for the space and equipment necessary to perform them. What products would you recommend found in retail pharmacy that help to boost energy levels? Vitamin B is my first recommendation. It both alleviates stress and assists in freeing energy from consumed food. Vitamin D is another supplement to consider, as levels of vitamin D drop considerably during the winter months from less sun exposure. The most effective way to improve energy levels is with a balanced diet and proper sleep hygiene. Emilie Dalwood, South Australia – TerryWhite Chemmart Woodcroft Plaza What is your advice for maintaining health and fitness goals in winter? It’s easy to forget salads and get carried away with warm comfort food during winter instead, so try to add as many vegetables into your soups and curries to keep up your daily vegetable intake. Drinking a glass of water before any meal will help to keep fluid intake up and give a fuller feeling to help avoid overeating. Find someone to be your workout partner to help motivate each other and look at using your home as your workout area if you can’t afford a gym membership – you can stay inside where it’s warm and avoid being turned off by the cold weather. There are loads of different workout DVDs or YouTube videos available for home use and lots of workout equipment available at affordable prices from many common retailers. What products would you recommend found in retail pharmacy that help to boost energy levels? Vitamin B and CoQ10 are great for boosting energy levels, along with ashwagandha \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\[an Ayurvedic herb\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\], which is beneficial in reducing stress levels and alleviating lethargy. Whenever anyone is looking for a specific supplement to help them with a particular symptom, we can recommend them a good multivitamin as well, because it’s likely that they’re not just lacking in the area they’re showing symptoms for. Therefore, an overall vitamin ‘top up’ will be very beneficial. Also, due to people often decreasing their fluid intake during winter, recommending an oral rehydration drink like Hydralyte will help with their energy, too. “Even if the weather is chilly, you can beat the cold by exercising indoors, with ample warm-up stretches to avoid muscle damage.” RETAIL PHARMACY ASSISTANTS • AUG 2020
