Pharmacy assistant training to support state-wide QLD pilot

As pharmacy assistants are often the first point of contact in community pharmacy, pharmacy assistants will play a crucial role in the success of the Queensland Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Pilot. In support of pharmacy assistants’ expanding role within the pilot, the Australasian College of Pharmacy has announced the launch of a short training course for Queensland pharmacy assistants.

The Queensland Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Training for Pharmacy Assistants course covers information about the Queensland Pilot, the services included in the pilot, patient eligibility and consent, as well as how pharmacy assistants can support their community pharmacists.

Chief executive officer Melanie Hunt reaffirms the college’s commitment to education training and upskilling for the whole community pharmacy team.

“The college understands that for community pharmacy to become the primary healthcare destination for patients, expansion in scope of practice is needed for both pharmacists and pharmacy assistants.”

“For Queensland community pharmacists to be able to provide expanded health care services to their patients pharmacy systems need to be able to do more to support their pharmacists’ colleagues to deliver the Primary Health care services provided within the Queensland pilot” Ms Hunt said.

the college is at the forefront of an ever-evolving Australian community pharmacy industry that delivers education and training to support the industry changes.

“The college recognised the need to upskill pharmacy assistance to ensure that Queensland pilot’s success for patients as such the college is the only Australian pharmacy education provider offering this niche training course for Queensland pharmacy assistance,” Ms Hunt said.

The mandatory QLD pilot training for pharmacy assistance courses accredited for QCPP refresher training, available online via the college CPD library and affordable at $99 per pharmacy assistant.

Queensland community pharmacies with more than three pharmacy assistants wishing to complete the course are encouraged to contact the college for a group enrolment offer.
