How does it feel to be awarded the State Finalist for New South Wales?
After the initial shock I felt empowered to get out there, speak to the staff and our community about what services we provide and what they would like to see in our Pharmacy.
The day was spent with an amazing group of intelligent and passionate pharmacy assistants who have so much to contribute to our profession. Being told that I stood out amongst them was really encouraging.
Can you give a brief overview of your career in pharmacy?
Since I was 16 years old I’ve been in pharmacy, so for 16 years. I started out as a Pharmacy Assistant and quickly moved into stock control. I have since moved onto Retail Management.
I’ve always known that I liked retail but when I started in pharmacy I really enjoyed engaging with customers and the journey towards giving them the best possible health outcome. I also enjoy the learning aspect and that Pharmacy is always evolving.
Do you think that Pharmacy Assistant’s deserve more recognition for the work they do?
I don’t think recognition is necessarily an issue, but we need to embrace the idea of investing back into our Pharmacy Assistants regarding training and professional development.
What do you have planned for the future?
I really enjoy pharmacy and I would really love to be in a role where I’m given the opportunity to go out and collaborate, advise and learn from other Pharmacy Assistants and Pharmacists. More specifically, about what else we can offer our customers as a health care destination.
