Queensland’s Maddison Waide named 2024 National Pharmacy Assistant of the Year

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia is thrilled to announce Maddison Waide from Lucy Walker
Pharmacy in Goondiwindi, Queensland as the winner of the 2024 Pharmacy Guild of Australia/Maxigesic Pharmacy Assistant of the Year (PATY) Award. Maddison stood out among eight outstanding finalists, each representing their state or territory, at the national workshop held during the 2024 Pharmacy Assistant National Conference (PA2024) held at the Hyatt Regency Sydney on Friday 6 September 2024.

This prestigious award celebrates excellence in community pharmacy by recognising pharmacy assistants who demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment to patient care within their communities.

The national workshop, where the finalists showcased their knowledge, skills, and dedication, was the culmination of months of preparation and competition.
Maddison was selected from a competitive field of state winners, who participated in a series of rigorous assessments that tested their expertise, leadership abilities, and contributions to the pharmacy industry.
Award judge and sponsor, Daniel Shalhoub from AFT Pharmaceuticals, said that the judges were deeply impressed by the calibre of this year’s finalists.
“It’s always challenging to select a winner given the exceptional talent and dedication displayed by each finalist,” said Mr Shalhoub.

“However, Maddison truly embodied the qualities that this award represents: commitment to patient care, leadership, and a passion for professional growth. Congratulations to Maddison on this well-deserved recognition.”

As the 2024 National Pharmacy Assistant of the Year, Maddison receives a $5,000 cash prize, along with flights, travel, and accommodation packages to attend key industry conferences, including the 2025 Australian Pharmacy Professional Conference and Trade Exhibition (APP2025) and the 2025 Pharmacy Assistant National Conference (PA2025), to further her career and professional development.

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia’s National President, Professor Trent Twomey also extended his congratulations. “The PATY award continues to be a cornerstone in acknowledging the hard work and dedication of pharmacy assistants across Australia. Maddison should be incredibly proud of this achievement,
as it highlights her significant contribution to community pharmacy.”
