The Pharmacy Guild of Australia is inviting all Australians to celebrate World Pharmacists Day which is being marked today.
This year’s theme is ‘Pharmacy strengthening health systems.’
Pharmacy Guild National President, Professor Trent Twomey says the event is an opportunity for all Australians to thank their local pharmacist for being there when we need them.
“We all know how much Australia and Australians rely on the advice and care given by the pharmacy network,” Professor Twomey says.
He also said Australian pharmacists are exemplars of this year’s theme of ‘Pharmacy strengthening health systems’ by working more to their full scope of practice.
“As we work with the states, the territories, and the Commonwealth Government, we’ll be pushing the case so Australians can ask their pharmacists for more.
“We all know that as pharmacists we can do more in Australia’s health care system so we can help Australians live happy and healthy lives.” Professor Twomey says.
As part of today’s celebration, Australians are encouraged to visit their local pharmacy to say thank you to their pharmacist and pharmacy assistants.
The country’s political leaders including Premiers, Chief Ministers and the Prime Minister have also sent messages of thanks as part of today’s event.
They thanked pharmacists and acknowledged the vital work they do including during the pandemic and afterwards as they helped Australia recover from the COVID-19 crisis.
World Pharmacists Day has been held each year on September 25 since 2009.
