A study published in JAMA Neurology reveals that consuming most of your calories from ultra-processed foods may lead to a faster rate of brain function decline.
The study observed 15,000 people for 6-10 years and found that people with the highest intake of ultra-processed food showed a 28% faster rate of cognitive decline and a 25% faster rate of executive function decline compared to those who ate the least.
These results, say the authors, support the current public health guidelines on limited ultra-processed food due to their potentially harmful effects on brain function.
