Concussion in Sport

With football finals fast approaching in junior and amateur leagues in the coming weeks, the issue ofconcussion in sport is once again in the spotlight. The First Aid Show is urging parents, sports trainers, coaches, and clubs to remain vigilant when it comes to head injuries during these crucial matches.

“Concussion remains the biggest concern for parents as we head into finals season,” said Suzanne Mooney, spokesperson for The First Aid Show, Australia’s only conference and expo for First Aiders.

“It’s vital to keep an eye out for red flags following a head strike, such as deterioration of consciousness,
vomiting, double vision, severe headache, increasing restlessness or agitation, and neck pain.”

“But ultimately, with all head knocks during sport—if in doubt, sit them out.”

Concussion in sport is one of the most pressing challenges facing all sports today. In response to this growing concern, Australia’s first and only conference and expo dedicated to first aiders and sportstrainers be held at the Melbourne Convention Centre and online on Monday, 26th August 2024.

The First Aid Show is excited to welcome Dr. David Hughes AM, co-author of the Concussion in Sport Guidelines for the Australian Institute of Sport, who will be delivering a keynote presentation specifically aimed at first aiders.
