A record-breaking 57 landmarks across Western Australia will shine purple on 26 March for Purple Day, marking the state’s largest-ever awareness campaign for Epilepsy WA.
The Purple Lights 4 Epilepsy WA campaign highlights the 1 in 25 Western Australians who will develop epilepsy in their lifetime and the 1500-plus new diagnoses each year.
Prominent Perth landmarks, including the WACA, Kings Park, Parliament House, Council House, and Elizabeth Quay, will be illuminated, alongside regional locations in Albany, Bunbury, Kalgoorlie, Manjimup, Geraldton, Northam, and Karratha.
Epilepsy WA CEO Emma Buitendag says the growing participation reflects the campaign’s significance.
“Seeing landmarks light up purple provides comfort to families and individuals facing the challenges of epilepsy, as well as to those who have lost loved ones to the condition,” she says.
In Albany, local mum and The Darcy Effect founder Kate Mitchell shared her excitement about the community’s support.
“Epilepsy WA was there for me when my son was diagnosed. Breaking the stigma around epilepsy is crucial, and I’m thrilled to see Albany and the entire state turning purple to raise much-needed awareness for epilepsy,” she says.
