Supplements available in pharmacies that target hair, skin and nails are specifically formulated for optimum growth when taken as directed and for a minimum of three-to-six months. Caruso’s and Nature’s Way make well tested and results driven products that have customers coming back to buy. Also, look for quality hair products that are free of silicones, sulphates and drying alcohols. These don’t allow the repairing and hydrating ingredients to penetrate the hair. Tori McRae- Field, South Australia – Direct Chemist Outlet, Torrensville What is your advice to customers who want to manage their heart health and to keep blood glucose levels in check? My advice to these customers is to have regular health checks with their GP, especially if they’re on any current medications to treat these conditions. My other advice would be to ensure that they have a well-balanced diet and try to limit salt and sugar intake – and switching out for herbs and spices or natural sugars (e.g., fresh fruit). Always drink plenty of water. Our bodies need it. What is your advice to customers who are looking to improve their hair from the inside and out? Hair care is something that a lot of customers are becoming increasingly aware of these days. The market for these products is going crazy. Some of the best products for hair care are in the form of supplements, and then there are also diet changes and standard hair care products. Supplements that are silica based are generally the most favourable products. However, recently there’ve been a number of collagen-based treatments, which seem to be having great results. There are also a number of hair care products that customers can benefit from: keratin products or even shampoos and conditioners that are aloe vera based are ideal. With regard to food and diet, certain “Manage stress where possible. Take time out for you! Allow yourself time each day to do something for yourself.” proteins \\\\\\\[and\\\\\\\] fats can help boost hair health – food options like eggs, avocado, nuts, greens (e.g., spinach), can help maintain great hair health. Kenya Broad, Tasmania – Penguin Pharmacy What is your advice to customers who want to manage their heart health and to keep blood glucose levels in check? Taking care of your heart is essential. It’s what allows us to do what we love doing every day. A healthy heart starts with a healthy lifestyle. • Get active, whether that be taking your dog for a walk every morning, aquatic exercise, yoga, stretching or going to the gym. • Manage stress where possible. Take time out for you! Allow yourself time each day to do something for yourself. That might be walking to your local coffee shop to get a coffee, or making a smoothie and sitting outside to listen to your favourite music. Whatever it is, make it something you love and something that relaxes you. • Reduce your salt and saturated fat intake. Avoid having salt on meals, or reduce the amount of sugar in your coffee. What is your advice to customers who are looking to improve their hair from the inside and out? A balanced diet and regular exercise are the key to healthy skin and hair. This can be complemented with a hair, skin and nail vitamin to boost hair growth. I swear by a good leave-in oil, which can be used daily to repair ends, stop frizz and leave the hair luscious and shiny. Along with oil, I like to use a leave-in treatment overnight in my hair, which I recommend to customers as it helps rehydrate the hair, especially if you’re using a hair dryer and hair straightener/curler daily. Lastly, I would recommend a visit to your hairdresser regularly to have any split ends cut off – to keep hair thick and to avoid unnecessary knots. Jaclyn Jenson, Western Australia – Wizard Pharmacy Rossmoyne What is your advice to customers who want to manage their heart health and to keep blood glucose levels in check? Metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease can often show no symptoms. You can begin to manage your heart health by looking at your lifestyle and eating habits. By having a balanced diet and active lifestyle, you can greatly reduce your risk of developing these diseases later in life. Blood glucose levels can be monitored with a blood glucose testing machine. There are machines available from your local pharmacy that are affordable and don’t require you to be a registered diabetic with NDSS. What is your advice to customers who are looking to improve their hair from the inside and out? Our diet can hugely influence our hair health and overall health. A diet rich in healthy fats, such as nuts and fish, can help to hydrate your hair, while foods high in protein, such as poultry, eggs and leafy greens, promote hair growth. To keep your hair looking luscious and healthy, I recommend regularly washing your hair with a quality shampoo and conditioner, a regular hair treatment, and for that little bit of extra TLC, a hair vitamin complex such as zinc and vitamins A, B and C.
