2 EDITOR’S LETTER EDITOR’S LETTER It’s hard to believe that just 12 months ago we were heading into the unknown of lockdown – anxious about this new virus that was rapidly spreading, scurrying to local supermarkets to purchase dwindling supplies of toilet paper and learning about the need for facemasks and social distancing when out and about. Fast forward to now, and with the Covid-19 vaccine rollout underway, we’ve embraced the new Covid-19 normal and are looking towards a hopeful future – one where we can get back to some semblance of normal while maintaining the new norms that we have had to become accustomed to. To say the last 12 months were challenging is an understatement. Yet together we were able to get through the hardships and together we face a hopeful future. While Covid-19 has dominated headlines over the last 12 months, it’s important to remember the other conditions some in the community are living with. With March being Endometriosis Awareness Month, we speak with Director and co-founder of Endometriosis Australia, Donna Ciccia and learn about the importance of being ‘Endo-Aware’ (from page 10). We also speak with a champion of science, Cardiac Genetic Counsellor and PhD candidate Laura Yeates from the Centenary Institute about the importance of professional development and effective counselling skills that pharmacy assistants can use when assisting customers (from page 16). We all know the importance of regular activity for mental and physical health, therefore we learn from Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Tim Douge, how to safely get started with exercise to minimise the risk of injury (from page 44). Another condition important to be aware of is polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and this month we learn how to help manage this condition through diet and nutrition (from page 40). We also include features on first aid, collagen, how to keep skin looking ‘forever young’ and the role of products like essential oils in helping us stay cool, calm and collected. We shine the Product Spotlight on Infacol (page 20) and take a look at the latest, must-have products to stock on your shelves (from page 50), and much more. There’s a lot to learn and discover in this month’s issue of Retail Pharmacy Assistants magazine, so grab your favourite drink and settle in. For the latest updates throughout the month of March, don’t forget to check out our website, and make sure you sign up to our e-newsletter so that you don’t miss out on the most up-to- date information related to all things retail pharmacy. As we head into a more hopeful March in 2021 – and with the important role pharmacy staff will play in the rollout of the vaccine – let’s remember that we’re all in this together and together we can continue towards a better future.
