6 EDITOR’S LETTER EDITOR’S LETTER It has been another busy month at Retail Pharmacy Assistants HQ. One of the main events that kicked things off for me this month was the 2020 Pharmacy Guild of Australia/Maxigesic Pharmacy Assistant of the Year (PATY) Award. This year I had the privilege of being part of the judging panel alongside PATY national judge, Alison Hope from the Pharmacy Guild of Australia and representatives from AFT Pharmaceuticals, branch judges from each State/Territory and the 2019 PATY State/Territory Winners. While the PATY Award was held virtually this year due to Covid-19, it was still an all-round success, and a very worthwhile experience. It was fantastic to meet the participating, talented pharmacy assistants from across the nation and to hear their stories of personal and professional growth. Well done to all who took part in the process. With that in mind I want to say big congratulations to the 2020 PATY State/Territory Winners! You were all outstanding in your interviews and had brilliant ideas for the growth of the industry. I look forward to seeing your ideas come to life over the next 12 months and look forward to working with you all through 2021. To meet our 2020 PATY State/Territory Winners head over to pages 28-32. As we bring in a new cohort of PATY State/Territory Winners, and while the national winner won’t be announced until the beginning of November, I also want to take this time to once again thank our 2019 PATY State/ Territory Winners and our 2019 PATY National Winner, Brianne Lowe. It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know all of you and working with you over the last 12 months. Thank you for all your hard work and input and for being such great ambassadors for the industry. I wish you all success as you continue to grow in your careers and pursue your goals. Given the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the nation, this month I also sat down with Sarah Wilson and spoke with her about mental health, wellbeing and how to be a positive influence on those around you (pages 34-37). We also get a sneak peek into her latest book, This One Wild and Precious Life (pages 38-39). In light of this month being ‘Movember’, men’s health is another big topic in this issue – see pages 40-43. We also cover all things skin care (pages 44-47); chat with the founder of the charity, Beard Season about the importance of regular skin checks (pages 12-14); and learn about the importance of vitamin D, particularly given its potential role in Covid-19 (pages 48-51). I hope this issue adds to your learning and growth, so that you can ultimately help your customers and community members. As always, if there is anything you would like to learn more about or see in the magazine, please let me know – I’m only an email away. In the meantime, keep doing the outstanding job that you all do. We – the community – are grateful for everything you do.
