I have learnt with how our world is evolving – we are required to continually improve our use of technology and customer services. What are you looking forward to most over the next 12 months and what are you hoping to achieve? I am excited to represent Tasmania as a National PATY finalist. I look forward to promoting the pharmacy assistant career pathway to young school leavers. I also look forward to continuing my involvement within the community. My ambition is to complete Certificate 4 in Pharmacy Management and I will actively pursue any opportunities towards managing our locally-owned community pharmacy, should they arise. How will you promote the industry and pharmacy assistants to the wider community over the next 12 months? As the Tasmanian ambassador, I will strive to promote the pathways my chosen career has to offer. I will continue to participate in community Christmas parade in town this year to participate in, I can encourage my colleagues to promote social media posts, school presentations and in-store activities. I would like to encourage school students to participate in work placement within the pharmacy as an assistant and broaden the knowledge of what the industry has to offer. An opportunity has arisen to do this next month, speaking at a local high school at a vocational training symposium. Emma Smallbone, Queensland – Zammitt Street Pharmacy What have you learnt about yourself and the profession throughout the 2020 PATY process? I have realised that I have ideas and innovation that could actually make a the-square ideas could become new services in community pharmacy. People’s passions, life experiences and education shape their team and also helps to educate one another. I’m certain I’m going to learn some amazing skills from my peers in the industry to make my community pharmacy a better place. With the framework of the 8CPA evolving already, I want to start growing some of these initiatives and to get a feel for how they’ll work in my pharmacy. I plan to see what my community of patients want and start to implement those needs as well.
