4 EDITOR’S LETTER EDITOR’S W LETTER e’re living in some seriously challenging times. As a second wave of COVID-19 infections looms – in Victoria and some parts of NSW it looks like it’s already here – and with new lockdown measures along with social distancing and facemask mandatories, it’s a situation calling for resilience like at no other time in recent history. Personally, I took the first round of COVID-19 and the measures it took to help flatten the curve in my stride. ‘OK, I can do this’ was my resolve. But now I’m really starting to feel the social impacts of COVID-19. I’m finding that I’m craving that in-person human connection. So much so that I’ve recently signed up to an adult ballet class as a way of interacting with others (in Queensland, group classes have reopened). Speaking with some of the people who have joined, the sentiment is the same: people are yearning for that feeling of connection. In Queensland we’ve been pretty lucky so far, with cases kept to a minimum, but I know how hard it must be for those in other states and territories. My friends in Melbourne are sharing on social media how hard they’re finding this second round of lockdown. These are some of the strongest, most resilient people, yet they’re struggling. I know that their strength and resilience will get them through, but it’s a tough time that is starting to take its toll. This toll is no doubt also felt among the frontline workers – that’s all of you, who showcase resilience and strength every day. Without you and the support you continuously provide those in need, we wouldn’t be able to get through this. We’ll be forever grateful for everything you’ve done, and all that you continue to do for the community as we all continue to grapple with this pandemic. With this in mind, for this month’s issue we interviewed exercise guru Ashy Bines, who tells how she overcame some of her challenges and gives advice on maintaining motivation with fitness during the winter months (pages 14-17). We also explore complementary medicine (pages 26-29) and the controversial world of medicinal cannabis (pages 30-33). We take a look at respiratory health, in light of the effects of COVID-19 on lung function (pages 40-43) and shine the spotlight on the latest must-have products in our Shop Talk feature (pages 48-51). It’s another issue filled with the latest information, guidelines and advice to help you help your customers – those who’ll be turning to you for advice now more than ever. So, grab your favourite hot beverage and enjoy. As always, if there’s anything you’d like to see in our magazine or on our socials, please reach out. We’d love to hear from you. Remember: I’m only an email away.
