24 EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
FROM PAGE 23
What are some of the coping strategies you’ve utilised to get through isolation?
Duncan: Mostly Zoom calls. I’ve really been very busy
with Zoom calls, conference calls, etc., but I’ve also made time just to be with the family, to play board games, cards, watch movies together and also get more involved in
their schooling.
While it’s been hard and challenging, I think it’s also given
me a chance to spend more time with the kids and the family as a unit, and this has been a good thing. Life has become a lot simpler and we’ve found an opportunity to build our family connections in a positive way.
2Calls2Dads is the brainchild of The Fathering Project Queensland State Manager Ken Houliston, who adds these points:
• Most blokes thrive on knowing that their mates have
got their backs.
• To have another father reach out, who’s also on the
same journey, is gold.
• Most dads don’t talk about parenting and any struggles
they’re having with their kids, unless they’re given an
‘excuse’. 2Calls2Dads gives them an excuse.
• Stress is usually reduced when you get a chance
to talk to someone you trust about your struggles. This gives pharmacy assistants a really easy subject to raise – for example, ‘Have you heard about the 2Calls2Dads movement? You ought to take a look at 2calls2dads.org’.

Overall, why do you think 2Calls2Dads is a great tool? Why should pharmacy assistants recommend this as a resource for customers?
Duncan: It’s a great tool to support mental wellbeing in the community for dads, and to also let the mums know about it. It’s simple and you’re given tools and a check list to follow. It also builds a network out into the community. If everyone calls two mates, we can multiply and connect communities, check on dads’ wellbeing, which benefits the kids,
the families and the broader community at large. You can get some good tips on how to manage the call by going to 2calls2dads.org.
