16 EXCLUSIVE FEATURE FROM PAGE 15 BWy Margaret Mielczarek. In the shower, she adds, she’s also “hooked on Aromatherapy Associates rose gel at the moment” and after showering, can’t go past La Mer. Rounding out her beauty routine is a “weekly manicure to keep her hands and nails in top shape.” “A weekly manicure is vital, and in between, Mavala cuticle oil,” she said. Trends that Roxy suggests keeping an eye on during the COVID-19 pandemic are “at-home options”. “I think that people are really geared towards at-home options, based on government restrictions at the moment,” she said. “So, that would be my focus as a retailer: having store staff \[who are\] well versed in what you need for an at-home ‘mani’, for example, would be really handy. Then also having someone who can focus on hair removal and give advice on handy tips and tricks. “There’s huge scope to really upsell here and bring in additional revenue. And if they come in for hair removal, sell them ingrown hair treatments and loofas too.” Despite the business success, Roxy’s life hasn’t always been all glitz and glamour. It’s no secret to most that 2016 was a tumultuous year for her and her family, with many difficult challenges to overcome. Yet, despite the hurdles, Roxy not only survived these, but she thrived. Maintaining perspective was one of the keys to getting through. “I looked at how many people in the world were going through much worse than me,” she said. “Yes, my husband was jailed \[and\] I had breast cancer, but I had two wonderful children and five thriving businesses. Life could have been much worse. There are always going to be hurdles in life. You can choose to stop dead in your tracks or run through them. I chose the latter. And based on that, I came through on the other side ... just (laughs).” It’s true, everyone faces hard situations at times. Whether personal or professional, challenges are a part of life. “Be strong, look at the positives in your life and remember, everything does eventually pass,” Roxy advised. Her advice to retail pharmacy assistants with big career goals? “Dream big, take risks, push the boundaries. Don’t take no as the answer if you \[really\] want \[something\] and put in more work than anyone else.” When it comes to maintaining balance while kicking career goals, Roxy puts it simply: “There’s no such thing as balance and anyone who tells you there is, or that they have it, is lying.” For her, it’s about “reducing social commitments and using that time to be with my kids and husband”. Speaking of career goals, what’s next for Roxy? “My big focus for the balance of 2020 is to grow my online course, ‘Roxy’s Brand Bootcamp’, which is an online branding course suited to all industries and personal and business brands,” she revealed. “I love doing it, and having held three online courses ... so far, it’s been very rewarding seeing people take the next steps in their career.” hen you think of fashion, beauty, PR and the luxe life, what’s the name that first comes to mind? That name should be Roxy Jacenko. Entrepreneur, mum of two and, “as much as it \[may\] surprise you, a recluse”, there’s not a lot that she hasn’t achieved. And while opinions about the talented and savvy businesswoman may be divided (you either love her or hate her, it seems), there’s no question that through hard work and sheer determination, and a fearless attitude, she has carved a name for herself in the glamorous world of fashion and beauty PR. “I started my agency \[Sweaty Betty PR\] at 24,” she said. “I’d been working for Italian jeans company Diesel in PR for some \[time\] and wanted to take the risk and start my own agency. The next week it was open.” Given her portfolio, it goes without saying that Roxy is an authority when it comes to fashion and beauty, and the latest trends. For her, beauty is all about someone’s “overall package”. “I don’t think \[beauty\] is simply face value ... a big part of beauty, in my eyes, is what comes from within,” she said. When it comes to makeup and beauty, Roxy is all about “less is more”. She recommends investing in “a good moisturiser” – suited to your skin, of course, and “not just one you saw on Instagram” – “a great body wash”, “eye masks to deflate puffy eyes”, a “quality hairbrush” and one of Roxy’s must-haves: “a Colgate toothbrush”. “It seems crazy, but once you have sparkling clean teeth, you feel fabulous,” she said. Speaking to Roxy, her authenticity when it comes to beauty soon becomes clear: she certainly practises what she preaches. Describing her beauty routine, she reveals that while she washes her luscious blonde locks three times a week with “John Frieda’s range”, Sundays are for “a weekly restore hair mask”. “I love the John Frieda brand and am their Australian brand ambassador,” she said. “I’ve grown up with the brand as my mother swore by Frizz Ease, which is still a hero range for the brand. With any of my ambassador roles, I ensure there’s an actual synergy and \[that\] I use, or live the lifestyle of, the brand. If not, I don’t do it. I don’t want to sell out, I want to communicate to my audience brands I love and use.” Having one’s makeup applied “professionally most days” may not be a luxury many of us will be accustomed to, but a solid makeup removal routine should be on everyone’s agenda. “I use Santé by Enjo cleansing pads in the shower to remove my makeup, which I generally have done professionally most days,” Roxy said. “I don’t think beauty is simply face value ... a big part of beauty, in my eyes, is what comes from within.” RETAIL PHARMACY ASSISTANTS • JUN 2020 For more information about Roxy’s Brand Bootcamp, visit: roxysbootcamp.com/pages/waitlist-2020.
