EDITOR’S battle the COVID-19 pandemic, a crisis that is now not only a health crisis – there’s the impact on jobs and the economy, and concerns about people’s mental health – it’s comforting to see how we as a society have come together to innovate and support each other in navigating new, and at times frightening, terrain. One of the things I noticed this month is a big shift towards health and wellness – looking after not only how you look on the outside (although, yes, maintaining groomed brows even in isolation is very important) but, more importantly, how you feel on the inside. I spoke with Chemcorp International General Manager, Jodie Phillips (pages 6-9) about the trends they’ve noticed in this space and while DIY hair and beauty is exploding while we’re all self-isolating, one of my favourite quotes from our conversation reads: “We strongly believe in looking after yourself as well – so, not just trying to look beautiful but to feel good on the inside as well.” Beauty starts from within – if you feel good, you will look good. A similar sentiment came from my conversation with Married at First Sight’s Steve Burley (pages 12-15). While his relationship on the popular reality television program wasn’t without controversy, there is a lot more to Steve than meets the eye. For one, he is a big advocate for men’s mental health. At a time where mental health is significantly being impacted on, this is an important conversation to have. For anyone struggling with their mental health, I also spoke with Kristine Ross – Sam Frost’s sister – who is the director of Stronger by Believe and co-founder of Believe by Sam Frost about how these platforms can help you get through difficult times (pages 16-19). And of course, for anyone struggling, please reach out to organisations such as Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636) and Lifeline (13 11 14) for help. This month we’re also inspired by a number of ‘endo warriors’ who show us what it’s like to live with the often-crippling condition, endometriosis – they show us what it’s like to not only survive through the pain, but to thrive in spite of it. Make sure you check out pages 24-31 for our full coverage around the condition. We also speak with a number of mums to find out what it’s really like to breastfeed (pages 40-44) because it’s one thing to know the theory, it’s a whole other ball game to know what it’s like from real-life experience. Our May issue is another jam-packed edition. With pages filled with the latest health information, must-have products to stock on your shelves and inspirational stories, it’s one not to be missed. As you read through the pages, remember that the message from us to you is this: we thank you and we support you. And we are grateful for the support you give to us – it has not gone unnoticed. None of what we do would be possible without you. So, thank you. Margs Margaret Mielczarek Editor LETTER On the one hand it feels like the last month went by in the blink of an eye, while on the other it feels like it has lasted about four years – or is that just me? Regardless, the year – and life as we have come to know it – is flying by (how is it that we’re already in May?).
