Community pharmacists stand ready to assist with the rollout of the Pfizer vaccine against Covid-19 for Australian children.
Pharmacy Guild of Australia National President, Trent Twomey, says provisional approval for the Pfizer vaccine rollout for children aged 5-11 will further boost national immunity against the ravages of Covid.
It’s expected the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) will soon consider the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approval.
Mr Twomey says the national vaccination rates have accelerated sharply after pharmacists were engaged in the process during the second half of 2021.
Efficiency and ready accessibility of community pharmacists was key to this effort, Mr Twomey adds.
He says the flexibility of community pharmacy could be seen on many fronts.
“In Queensland, for example, pharmacists reached an agreement with the State Government in October to deliver Moderna Covid vaccines in schools for students aged 12 and over.
“Across the nation, pharmacists are an integral part of their local community, working to achieve positive health outcomes and with an emphasis on prevention, not just cure.
“Community pharmacists stand ready to assist with rollout of vaccinations for our children aged 5-11, to protect them against this worldwide pandemic threat when the appropriate Australian Government approvals are in place,” says Mr Twomey.
