A fundraising campaign by TerryWhite Chemmart (TWC) and Swisse Wellness has raised nearly $20,000 for heart and lung disease research.

The retail campaign raised funds to cover 434 hours of medical research time for charity partner The Common Good.

The campaign raised more than $19,000 over two months with $1 from every Swisse vitamin and skin-care product bought at TWC pharmacies being donated to the charity to fund research for medical conditions that between them affect 90 per cent of Australians at some stage of their lives.

The money raised will be channelled towards emerging researchers working on projects to combat heart and lung disease.

The Common Good is an initiative of the Brisbane-based Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, aimed at bringing together everyday people to fight chronic illness. The charity’s objective is to provide more than $5 million a year to support the research teams focused on the early detection, treatment and recovery from heart disease, lung disease, dementia and arthritis including improving hospital care, surgery, rehabilitation and the use of new technology

“It costs just $44 to fund one hour of research, and that could ultimately help save your life, or the life of someone you love one day,” TWC CEO Anthony White said.

“At TerryWhite Chemmart, we’re all about keeping our customers at the forefront of what we do, and by working together with The Common Good, we can help to make a real difference to the health of all Australians.”

More than 17,200 vitamin and 1,900 skin-care units were bought during the two-month campaign.
